           I will live as an American;
           I shall die an American."

       Daniel Webster, Public Official

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...............There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.",

Arizona State Flag (06/12-03-07) Ben Avery Range, Winter Range 07. What can I say, "WOW" what a shoot. Once again the AZ Rough Riders put on one really fun exciting shoot. The stages were well planned out, the props were wonderful and just enough movement to make things really fun.The weather was perfect. No water falling out of the sky this year. Warmed up really nice with lots of sunshine. In other words great shooting weather in Arizona. I did all right at the shoot for the first time shooting BP. Its a little different, but really lots of fun. Picked up a couple new toys over there and will be changing categories for some up coming shoots. A pair of really nice 1858 New Armys, with 5 /1/2 barrels. Have taken them of the range once and they are fun to shoot. Looking forward to lots of shooting this summer, hope to see lots of you as we travel around this year.

New Mexico State Flag (09-06) Magdalina, New Mexico. Back home for the Magdalina Trail Drivers SASS New Mexico Shoot. Had a ball, picked up another third place in Frontier Cartridge. Had a couple of bad stages, my own fault, as the stages were well written and fun to shoot. Only thing was the rifle targets were just a tad far out, a little more that most of us are use to. But it was the same for all and overall, a wonderful shoot. These folks really worked hard putting on this shoot and it showed. One stage had targets that were cut like old style jugs. They were a little narrow and sure did make you find the front sight blade. I want to thank the Old Magdalina Trail Drivers for a wonderful time, great food and lots of door prizes. Seemed to me that there was something for everyone. They really worked hard on putting this together and it showed. Again thanks for a great shooting weekend, hope to see lots of the OMTD's down the trail and shoot with them again real soon.

Idaho State Flag (08-06) Boise, Idaho, Reckoning at Blacks Creek, SASS™ Idaho State Championship. What a great shoot. Had a ball again. These clubs really put on a good shoot. I got lucky this year and placed 3d in Frontier Cartridge and scared the clay birds into breaking each and every shoot and took 1st place in the Cowboy Clays, no one was more surprised that I was when the last bird broke and I was the only one still standing. These clubs really have upgrade their range and for a 12 stage match they were fine tuned, made you think and no "P" traps. All stages were well thought out and targets were shooter friendly. Not to close nor to far, well with in SASS guide lines. This is one shoot that you want to look over and plan a trip to Boise, Idaho. The area is nice and there is lots to do around there. So plan a couple extra days for sight seeing. In closing, thanks for putting on a really fun shoot and sign me up for next year.

New Mexico State Flag (06-06) Magdalina, New Mexico. Well finally back into the shooting game again after a little bout with surgery. Also joined the Dark Siders with the shotgun. This is one category that I think that I will really enjoy. It sure is fun making all that smoke and fire. This was a really fun filled day. Stopped at the Very Large Array and toured the place. Then on to the range at the Magdalina Trail Drivers. They really have a nice set up, permanent range well thought out and nicely put together. These folks have done a bunch of work on their range and it shows. Thanks for a fun day of shooting. Still not up to speed but getting there and hope to be back in style in the near future. These are the folks that are putting together the SASS New Mexico State Shoot and it appears that it's gonna be a good one. So if you have not sign up yet, now is the time to get your application in. See you all again in September.

Arizona State Flag(11-25) Tombstone Arizona Territorial, Ace LaRue Memorial Shoot, 2005. First time that I attended this shoot and the stages were great. No "P" traps in the stages, but they made you think a little and target placement was just right. Some real close and some a little ways out. Targets were big but still could be missed. I shoot the match with only one miss, and that was on Sunday, and was it cold. Fingers would not just work right. I finished in 10th place in the Senior category out of 25 or so Seniors. This shoot could use a little more work. There were no food vendors, no water provided on the stages and the printing in the shooters handbook was really hard to read. But all in all, it was a fun shoot. Don't know if I will be going back again next year but this is one that you might want to think about if you are in the area.

Arizona State Flag(11-05) What a ball. Just got back from the Second Annual Arizona Territorial Round Up. A bunch more shooters than last year, but still just as much fun. One thing for sure is that the Zonies really know how to put on a good shoot. Each stage was different, with no "P" traps, a little movement, some lines and nice big targets all the way around. This is one shoot that you need to place on your shoot schedule to attend. Besides Phoenix is really nice in November. Weather was great and its always nice to visit Arizona in the winter and get a little sun. So until next year, hope to see many more shooters, you will have fun.

Idaho State Flag (08-05) Boise, Idaho, Reckoning at Blacks Creek, SASS™ Idaho State Championship. This was the first southwestern all clubs putting on the State Shoot. They did a wonderful job. Targets were big, up close and the stages were fun to shoot. I would recommend this shoot to anyone who wants a fun shoot with friendly folks. The only thing that I did not like about this shoot was that all long guns, mostly, were staged up right and you could move the rack to where you want it. Moving anything on a stage gives unfair advantage to a shooter. Once props are set up all shooters should have to shoot them from where they are. I hope that they get this corrected for the next shoot, since this is one that I would like to attend again.

New Mexico State Flag (04-05) Albuquerque, New Mexico, End of Trail, Founders Ranch. What a ball. Got to shoot with some of the best, watch them and did learn a few things. If you get the chance go to one of the End of Trails. They are only going to get better and better. Weather was great for the shoot, but there was lots of rain before the start. Only hard thing was the parking for the Day Shooters. Parking was about 3/4 mile from the range and down hill. It was a long haul up the hill once you were done shooting. Thanks for the shuttles, they were a life saver. Looking forward to the posting of the scores so that I will know how I did. Hope to see you all at the EoT06 next year.

Texas State Flag(03-05) Oakwood Outlaws, Oakwood, Texas. SASS™ Texas State Championship Shoot. What a ball, great folks, wonderful range and fun for all that attended. Ten main match stages that made you think, a little, were not loaded with any "P" traps and were fun to shoot. Then Saturday evening the banquet was fun for all. This shoot had one of the best prize pools that I have ever seen. As luck would have it, I walked away with a Marlin Cowboy in my favorite caliber, 45 Colt. It was a long drive over from home to Oakwood but well worth it. We stayed at the Buffalo RV Park which is about 8 miles from the range. Nice park, quiet with nice facilities. Would stay there again. Once again thanks to all the Oakwood Outlaws for putting on one really nice shoot. It at all possible we will be back for more fun with this fine club.

New Mexico State Flag (02-05) Las Cruces, New Mexico. Once again a great shoot. Weather was a little iffy, but what little rain that fell didn't dampen any of the cowboys and cowgirls that attended. Was a nice crowd and getting bigger with each shoot. This is one shoot that you might want to mark on your calendar and start attending. Hope to see bunches of new shooters there in March.

Arizona State Flag(02-05) Well, back from Winter Range 05, or should I say Winter Rain 05. Any who, had a ball, baring the terrible weather. This is one really fun shoot. Did all right, finished 245/662 shooters. Had my best ever stage, finally shot one under the 30 second mark. First time for that accomplishment. Been close a few times and have now finally got one under 30. Winter Range is one of the finest shoots in the nation. Great stages, great folks and usually really nice weather. The posse that I shoot with was great and we all had a ball. Seems that the rain followed our posse though out the shoot. When we finished shooting the weather cleared and the sun came out. Oh, Well, that is the way things go. Already planning on attending this great shoot next year, and hopefully will accomplish another one on my list, that is shooting this match clean. Only one miss this year, a small brain fade on stage 7, was putting my pistol away before I was really done. Just don't pay to think ahead.

New Mexico State Flag (01-05) Las Cruces, New Mexico had their second shoot ever. Again this was a well planned shoot, nice folks and a good gathering of Cowboy and Cowgirl Shooters. Weather was nice, not to warm, over cast with a bit of a slight breeze. I did good at this shoot, cleaned the match, this is my second monthly match to ever shoot clean. This one even had two fliers and I got both of them. If you get a chance this is a match that you want to plan on attending.

New Mexico State Flag (12-04) Was up Albuquerque way this past September04 and shoot with the Rio Grande Renagades. Threw in a course on RO I for 17 members of that gang. A great bunch to teach and they learn'd really fast. Anyway, we finished up the class and then all went out to the range for a great 4 stage match. Got to shoot against a youngin' by the name of Mica McGuire. He is young and sorta in-experienced but fast and mostly pretty accurate for a youngin'. But it just goes to show you what age and treachery will do. Took that youth by .02 seconds. Guess that I will have bragging rights until the next time we meet up. I am sure that Mica will have aged a bit and most likely once again come out on top. In this shoot I finished 1/28. Not bad for an old guy.

Arizona State Flag (11-04) Went over to Phoenix, AZ for the first Annual AZ Territorial Round Up put on by the AZ Cowboy Shooters Assoc. What a great shoot. Had bunches of vendors, a great prize pool and wonderful sponsors. This is a shoot that is only going to grow bigger and bigger. So put in your plans this shoot, you won't be disappointed and will have a great time. Besides Phoenix is great in November, weather is nice, still warm and lots to do in Phoenix. BTW, I finished 79/168 and shoot this match clean.

New Mexico State Flag (11-04) Went over to Alamogordo with a couple buddies for their monthly shoot. Finished 1/18 with a good time. This is a fun club to shoot with and they put on good monthly matches. Weather was great and we finished before noon. Had lunch then headed back to Silver City. Have to brag a little, finally out shot Led Foulin for a change. Usually he kicks me butt good, but not this time. I have to keep in mind that there are other shoots coming up that we will be competing against each other in. He's good so will have to keep an eye on him.

New Mexico State Flag (10-04 )Headed over to Las Cruces for their first every Cowboy match. A new club and a new range. Was about 30 shooters for the first shoot. Had a ball, this will be a good club to have in the area. No scores have been posted yet, but give them time, they are new and growing. Think that I did all right, will find out later on. Finish sixth over all at this shoot. This club is only going to get better and better and as more cowboys find out about this shoot its really going to grow. So if you want to meet some really nice cowboys and cowgirls mark the 4th Saturday on your calendars and drop on over to Las Cruces for some good shooting

New Mexico State Flag (10-04) Was up in Albuquerque this past weekend, December04, shooting with the Rio Grande Renagades. Taught a RO I course Saturday, another 11 RO Is for this great club. Then shoot a match with them. Wonderful bunch of folks to shoot with. Did all right, had lots of fun, then come Sunday morning, taught a RO II course, 14 folks out of 14 passed the course. Then we had another shoot. Was defending my title that I aced Mica McGuire out of last time I was up that way. Well, Mica had practiced a few times and reclaimed his title. If you get a chance this is a great club to shoot with and Albuquerque is a fun town to visit. So if you get a chance, drop over and shoot with the Rio Grande Renagades. You will have lots of fun.

Idaho State Flag (09-04) This past September we headed up to Idaho for the Idaho State Championship. A little different shoot that what I was use too. But fun, and those Idaho folks are great pards to shoot with. We are planning on attending that shoot again next year. I finished 27/133 in that shoot and 5th in my category, the 49er. The after shoot activities at Jackpot, Nevada were great. These Idaho folks sure know how to put on a good feed and entertainment. Meet lots of nice folks from around the Pacific Northwest and even talked to a few that grew up around my old home town, Grandview, Idaho and Owyhee County.

New Mexico State Flag (03-04)I shoot the New Mexico State Championship, Victorio's Run 2004. Finished 35/113 shooters. I must admit, I think that I am turning into a "Gamer." Sad to say that after the NM State Shoot I went out and practiced a couple times before heading up to Idaho. Thinking seriously of starting a support group sort of like AA, 12 steps and all that for us "Gamers." If you think you need help, contact me and we will support each other. This is a up and coming shoot. If you want to get use to the climate and altitude of New Mexico before heading to Founders Ranch this is one shoot to put on your schedule.

Arizona State Flag (02-04) I think that the most fun at any shoot that I have had so far was Winter Range 02 and Winter Range 04. I don't remember where I placed at WR02, but that was my first big shoot and I got to meet some really nice folks, shoot with them and had a ball. I could not make WR03, but got in for WR04. I wanted to shoot a clean match and almost made it. Had a serious brain fade on stage 8, shoot the shotgun targets in the wrong order and picked up a big ole "P." Otherwise I did clean the match, that is I hit every target at least once, even if they were in the wrong order once. At WR04 I finished 250/661 shooters. I figured that ain't bad at all.

So far, I have only had TWO clean matches at a monthly shoot and ONE clean match at a larger annual shoot. Earned a really neat scarf slide that was made by one of the members. Since then I have come close a few times with only one or two misses in a six or four stage monthly match, but no more clean ones. Its a great feeling when that last shoot goes down range and that steel rings loud and clear.

States that I have shoot clean matchs in. New Mexico State Flag Arizona State Flag
